Today we did a fun activity from the curriculum I planned for my conference in India. So much of middle-school Art is focussed on contrast and gradient between dark and light, and the firm arising from the differences. I thought this was a fun way to practice.
Materials:
Chalk pastels
Drawing paper
Found objects
Ruler
Pencil
First, students traced objects with their pencil on the paper.
Second, students made intersecting lines across the paper.
Third. Treating each segment as its own space, students created a gradient from dark to light by smudging the chalk pastels.
