Physiology: dissection! **graphic warning**

If you're squeamish, look away. If not, enjoy and bask in the glory of kinesthetic learning in physiology!A week ago, we dissected a cow's heart. It was so fun. The kids loved poking and prodding and trying to figure out which structures were which.I asked the local butcher if he could swing anything else...he went whole hog! I picked up a 5 gallon bucket if guts, threw down a tarp in my team-teacher's room, and we went to town.There were some pretty amazing moments as we worked from the tongue, through the digestive tract to the anus, then heart, lungs, liver, bladder, and pancreas. We couldn't find the kidneys, must have hit the cutting room floor.My favorite was the last 20 minutes when the kids got to explore the organs themselves. They would ask us to cut things open, and explored the inner workings of them. Awesome, albeit stinky, day.I must admit that at one point it looked like a bit of a zombie attack. Also, a favorite moment in teaching is now when the RSP substitute wandered in, and paled, realizing what she never expected to have seen!Moral of the story: You never know what you'll find in a Waldorf room!
